Who and why should take the Hungarian as a Second Language Exam?
Everyone who is not a Hungarian citizen or has dual citizenship (one of them could be Hungarian as well) can apply to take this exam in the year they turn 14. The Junior exam can be taken between ages of 10 and 14.
It's worth to take this exam if someone would like to obtain an official document about their language proficiency for either personal or professional reasons.
• Proof of Hungarian language skills might be required in certain cases before obtaining Hungarian citizenship.
• The accredited exams (B1, B2, C1) serve as an addition to resumes and job applications in both Canada and Hungary.
• If someone intends to apply for a job in Hungary, proof of Hungarian language proficiency might be required by the employer.
• The accredited language exams (B1, B2, C1) can be applied as extra credit towards the entrance examination at Hungarian Universities, as well as it is mandatory to obtain proof of language proficiency in a foreign language before one can receive a diploma from any Hungarian Universities (hence Hungarian as a foreign language exam seems like a logical choice for someone who is not a Hungarian citizen or holds dual citizenship).
• The accredited language exams (B1, B2, C1) are accepted as extra credit on all Universities in Hungary as well as most Universities in the European Union and some universities in Canada.
• The accredited Hungarian language exams (B1, B2, C1) are accepted as high school credits in most Metro Vancouver public schools and successful examinees can choose to be exempt from learning mandatory foreign languages (i.e. French) in high school.
