Summer Camp 2005
This year we heard the call of the legendary Vaskakas (Iron Rooster) right here in Vancouver delivered by the Vaskakas Puppet Theater of Győr (www.vaskakas.hu). Rozi Kocsis puppet artist and Andrea Janics were our guests from Hungary in our three-day camp. The artists entertained us with several puppet shows and together we made illustrations to complement their stories. We baked “Hamuban sult pogacsa” (a biscuit baked in ashes, a popular element in Hungarian folktales), and we placed them into the basket of Little Red Riding Hood to take to Grandmother. Later we created a gingerbread house for Hansel and Gretel. In the afternoons we played team games in the park near our church.
The teachers and parents learned new tips from the visitors about activities for children. We are forever grateful for the puppets and screen play for Snow White donated to our association by the Vaskakas Theater!
