MárkuSzínház 2007
In March, 2007 our association, together with Hungarians in Seattle, invited the members of MárkuSzínház from Pécs for a guest performance. At the end, the artists could only perform in Vancouver and we consider ourselves very lucky having experienced two wonderful and hilarious performances.
The first performance was hosted by the Hungarian Community Center where Gabor Pilari and Zsuzsanna Vajda performed The Tree that Reached the Sky, a Hungarian folktale adapted by Elek Benedek. The children could participate in arts & crafts activities to prepare them for the show. While they were still busy creating princes, princesses, crowns and armors for knights, the music started and the performers appeared in a middle of a heated argument about who would be the best suitor for Princess “Lilly of the Valley”. They carefully examined the members of the audience, but no-one was more suitable than Johnny, a puppet. Johnny was a simple, poor boy who defeated his fears and the dragon and of course won the hands of the Princess and became the new King for the Kingdom.
